‘Don’t Think We’re Not Serious #2’

Second version of screenprint created for Pause | Play.

Four colour screenprint, using blending method.

‘Pause | Play - The Soundtrack to our Lives’

Presented by Cultivate Creative.

An exhibition exploring memories, music, and what lyrics mean to us.

Come and explore the way music inspires, delights and takes us down private paths all of our own, as selected local creatives visualize the lyrics from their personal favourite tunes – however they like.

‘Business Cards’

Here’s a sneak peak of my screen print for ”Pause | Play - The Soundtrack To Our Lives” exhibition at Mash art gallery, 11 Haydock Street.
Can you guess the song I’ve chosen?
Opening Night: Thursday 13th October 7:30pm
Exhibition Runs: 13th - 21st October
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so here’s a quick update.
As you can see I am taking part in an exhibition Pause | Play. An exhibition exploring memories, music and what lyrics mean to us (opening Thursday 13th October 2011), come down and see all the work from various creatives.
I’ve also been learning screen printing at the Bluecoat - My exhibition piece is one of my first ever pulled screen prints, so I’m quite proud!
I’ve sadly finished my internship at Smiling Wolf but they had some nice things to say. Check out Smiling Wolf studio activity section to read!
I’ve been designing t-shirt graphics for a new London based t-shirt label launching in SS12. I have to keep designs under wraps until then, but it’s all very exciting! Keep watch for more info on this.
I’ve also been working on more designs for print with celebrity/news/events photo agency Long Lens.
So I should have plenty more to show you on here soon.

‘Logo Design’

A selection of some logo’s I’ve designed. Folly - My own brand. Long Lens & Misfits Management - Logos designed for photography companies based in London. Melons Bitz - Logo designed while working freelance for Cultivate CreativeArab Fringe - My proposal submitted for the Arab Fringe logo, while doing an internship at Smiling Wolf. This wasn’t the final logo.

‘Graduation and updates’

I’ve been pretty busy recently working alongside Smiling Wolf and Liverpool Biennial as an intern so haven’t had much time to update my blog. Last Tuesday (12th) I graduated with a first, it was a long day but it was awesome!! Going to miss uni, wish everyone good luck and hope we all get where we want to be.

Unfortunately the screen printing course I was going to start this month was cancelled due to lack of participants so it has been rescheduled for September. Hopefully it’ll go ahead this time, I’m looking forward to learning the technique properly and being able to include it in my work and also offer it as a service.

Screen Printing Coming Soon…

I have always loved manual techniques and getting stuck in so I have decided to learn screen printing and am starting a course very soon. This will also mean that I can offer this service in the future. Updates on my progress will be posted here.

Got a first :) :) :)

‘James and the Giant Peach’
This my entry for a redesign of the current book cover for the Penguin Design Awards 2011 brief.

This my entry for a redesign of the current book cover for the Penguin Design Awards 2011 brief.

‘Raw Type - Time’

Based on the theme of time, I limited myself to five minutes creating each letter. The theme of time helps to emphisize the significant difference between the time it takes to create typography and the much shorter time took to read and understand the words.

The letters are made up of circles to help show that type and image are not separate; as type is made up out of shapes.

‘The important thing to remember is that where there is choice, there is meaning’
Text to image brief as part of a study on semiotics. The brief was to interpret a phrase into image. The quote I chose is from David Crow’s, “Visible Signs”. I chose the idea of expressing the phrase by drawing flowers as they represent different emotions. The user can choose the flowers and vase that represents their mood for that day.

‘YCN Entry, Boost - Boost Cocktails Bottles’
The brief was to create a new target audience for Boost Energy drinks. I chose to create a new family of Boost Energy Cocktails. The bottle shape is based on a cocktail shaker; the top sections of the bottle will be filled with the alcohol and the bottom section with Boost Energy, shake to mix the two together. Instead of a measurement which helps you to mix different flavours down the side of the shaker, there is my own ‘drunkometer’; symbols representing your level of drunkness as the bottle becomes emptier.

‘YCN Entry, Boost - Shake It Poster’

Boost Cocktails advertisement poster. The type is made up of the symbols I created for the ‘drunkometer’ on the Boost Cocktails bottle. ‘Shake It’ posters double up as a campaign where the public can suggest a new flavour cocktail and vote for flavours on the Boost website, the flavour with the most votes will be made and added to the Boost cocktail family.

‘YCN Entry, Boost - Super Hero Posters’

Boost Cocktails advertisement posters. The idea behind the superhero posters was that by drinking Boost Cocktails you will have the power/energy that your classic childhood superheores have.
